ICE recovers another stolen vehicle

Suspects (29 and 30) charged with attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

The dedicated team of ICE, who assists police and helps to protect the Florida community, again proved that they play a vital role in fighting crime after another two criminals were brought to book.

Colonel Rautenbach of the Florida South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that two suspects aged 29 and 30 were taken into custody after an ICE patrol team spotted and followed a suspicious looking vehicle early on Monday morning 21 July.

“Patrollers were driving around the area when they spotted a suspicious looking Volkswagen Golf 3 travelling very slowly on Hull Street towards 4th Avenue,” ICE Chairman Luqmaan Rahim explains.

“The team immediately called for backup and followed the vehicle down 4th Avenue passing Florida Lake. More ICE team members arrived and requested the driver to pull over.

“We then found that the gear lock was still intact and that the suspects were driving slowly because they could only use one gear. The ignition also was broken. ICE members found other break-in implements on the driver and passenger sides.”

SAPS members arrived shortly afterwards, arrested the two suspects and charged both with attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

“ICE proved once again that had they not been around, another vehicle would have been stolen,” Rahim says.

Colonel Rautenbach expressed his gratitude towards ICE and commended the team on a job well done in assisting police.
