An intelligence-driven operation comprising of the South African Police Service, Provincial Commercial Crime Unit, Provincial Organised Crime, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and other law-enforcement agencies members led to the arrest of a 43-year-old man in Florida.
During the operation, a laboratory was discovered at the house, where illegal medicine and drugs were being manufactured. Tablets and other illegal substances worth millions were confiscated.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the vigilance displayed by the Gauteng Police, and urged the community to continue working with the police by reporting suspicious activities to the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or by submitting tip-offs through the My SAPS app.

Mawela concluded by warning the community not to believe that normal day-to-day police operations have been put on the back-burner due to Covid-19 lockdown, and said, “There is no place to hide in Gauteng.”
JMPD Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar added, “The police officers received information about the illegal laboratory, and discovered drugs worth approximately R5 million.
The suspect, while not being a registered pharmaceutical manufacturer, manufactured illegal drugs.”
