EMS employee initiates food drive
Food security in vulnerable communities has been the biggest obstacle during the national lockdown.

Food security in vulnerable communities has been the biggest obstacle during the national lockdown.
The extension of the lockdown has fuelled the need for more food parcels for the disadvantaged communities.
A kind-hearted Lizel Janse van Vuuren from Joburg EMS has again put other people’s needs first by doing a collection drive to aid the poor.
“We are asking for non-perishables such as canned veggies, rice, past, mealie meal, milk, soya, soup beans, salt, pepper, sugar, coffee/ tea and breakfast cereals, such as instant pap products,” she explained.
She said these basics are needed to provide for families that were working for a salary on a day-to-day basis, and are suffering now because of the lockdown.
“The pickup from collection points will be done every second Friday as from Friday, 17 April. The general collection point will be the Florida Park Fire Station on Ontdekkers Road,” she indicated.
In addition to the food drive, they also have people preparing hot meals for the homeless and people in old age homes.
