Quarter-finals of the Tournament of South Africa’s Favourite Things
The quarter-finalists have been decided

Readers voted with their stomachs as food-related items went undefeated in the previous round. Here are the eight South African things making up the quarter-final contests:
Quarter-final A – The people’s car against the genius in green and gold
Cruising past Ponte Tower with 78 per cent of the vote was the classic Volkswagen Citi Golf, but standing in the joyrider’s way is the man who ground out a narrow 56/ 44 victory over Carte Blanche, World Cup winning coach, Rassie Erasmus
Quarter-final B – The great condiment war
All Gold Tomato Sauce smothered Toto’s Africa into silence with 73 per cent of your votes, while 63 per cent of you chose Mrs Ball’s Blatjang over Sun City’s oasis paradise resort. A necessity on any South African serving tray, which of these lights the fire in the stomachs and hearts of South Africans?
Quarter-final C – Brilliant breakfast or sugary sensations
71 per cent of you proved that koeksisters are just too sweet for Steve Hofmeyr, while 64 per cent prefer breakfast over beer. Wimpy trounced Charles Glass, and will now look to slay the diabetes-inducing delight.
Quarter-final D – Crispy crunches or bubble fun
Sobriety triumphed again when Simba Chips defeated Tequila specials with a 74 per cent majority. Taste buds too proved a defining motivator as musical icon Johnny Clegg was bettered by Chappies bubble gum with 59 per cent of the vote.
