That morning, the delegates went to Plot 323 in Wilgespruit, where they met the displaced dwellers who have been living in tents since early 2018.
Quoting Makhubo’s statement on Facebook, he said the community had previously expressed the need for additional sanitation, water tanks and hygiene products. In addition, they also organised vegetable packs for the residents.
After this visit, the delegates crossed over to Zandspruit informal settlement where they educated the residents on the Covid-19 pandemic, and the importance of maintaining social distance.
Ward 114 councillor, Victor Mafinya had previously feared non-compliance from his community due to the living conditions in Zandspruit. He had also appealed for hygiene products to help fight the virus in the informal settlement.
This call seemed to have been heeded as Makhubo and his team handed out hand sanitizers, soap and various cleaning detergents to help protect them. In addition, food packs were given out.
