Superbru gets creative to keep the sports fans happy
Prediction website launches FIFA 20 Virtual Premier League
Losing local and international sport was among the first of the flurry of punches thrown by the coronavirus heavyweight. One by one the most loved events on the sporting calendar hit the canvas as society rightly prioritised health over entertainment. Part of the excitement of scanning the multiple fixture lists for that weekend’s enjoyment was envisioning the results and getting your ‘picks’ in.
Superbru revolutionised Monday morning office sports banter by forcing chipper armchair analysts to put their proverbial money were their mouths were. Operating with five permanent staff and a handful of freelancers, the site has not been immune to the fallout. “Essentially when there’s no sport, fewer people visit Superbru, meaning we make significantly less revenue from advertising,” confirmed Superbru Commercial Director, James Hutchison.
Growing from a the paper-recorded 2001 Super 12 season to being backed by brands such as Vodacom and SuperSport, the visionaries at Superbru have launched a Virtual Premier League (VPL) to keep enthusiasts occupied. The VPL will use the football simulation game, FIFA 20, to generate an entire season’s results over 38 consecutive days beginning on 7 April, with some games even being streamed live.
Even the prediction gurus have no idea when real sport can resume and how unfinished tournaments can be concluded, but the team will be ready when the time comes. “We’ll make a decision based on a tournament by tournament basis, depending on how the various administrators eventually get things resolved. As always, we’ll just have to do our best,” elaborated James.
The VPL will be a great way to keep the site going and if anyone wishes to reciprocate the love for all those yellow caps, they can visit https://www.superbru.com/player/appeal.php. James extended his gratitude, concluding, “We’re all in good health here at Superbru HQ. We hope the Superbru community is healthy and safe, and we look forward to getting back to normal.”
