Cigarettes and alcohol confiscated in Florida raid

In what seems like a surreal return to a prohibition nightmare, cigarettes and alcohol have become an incredibly sought-after form of contraband. These once everyday products are now almost impossible to come by during the national lockdown.

On 1 April, Florida Blockwatch, Florida Community Policing Form, ICE Community Policing, AfriForum and Discovery National Anti-Gang Unit conducted a raid at a well-known venue in the Florida area. “Well done to the Florida Covid-19 Team on a large seizure of alcohol and cigarettes. Businesses not complying with the Covid-19 lockdown mandate will be taken to task. Stock will be confiscated and the owners prosecuted,” said Riaz Jogee of Florida CPF.

The confiscated items were taken to Florida Police Station and a case was opened. There are two weeks left in the unprecedented lockdown and while the rules may have changed, they must still be followed.
