The City of Joburg (CoJ) refuse removal entity, Pikitup, has notified ward councillors and residents that their stock of bins has arrived.
Pikitup spokesperson, Muzi Mkhwanazi confirmed that replacement and previously ordered bins are being delivered to residents.
Residents are asked to take note that no walk-ins will be permitted during the lockdown period.
If your bin is broken or has been stolen or lost, you can order a new one by following these steps:
• Before calling the City Call Centre, make sure you have your municipal account number ready
• Call the City’s call Centre on 0860 Joburg (0860 56 28 74) and request a bin replacement
• A reference number will be supplied, which you must keep
• The reference number will then be referred to a Pikitup official who will attend to the customer’s request
Please note that if your bin has been stolen, you need to report it to the police and obtain a case number.
Several residents have been buying replacement bins from other suppliers such as West Pack, but are complaining that their rubbish does not get collected when it is in the privately purchased bins.
Mkhwanazi responded to these complaints saying that some of the bins not sold through Pikitup do not fit on the loading mechanism, meaning the loaders are unable to empty them.
He further said that Pikitup does collect privately purchased bins, provided they fit the mechanism. “Pikitup does collect bins that residents bought privately, provided they are compatible with Pikitup’s bin specifications.”
