Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula recently issued a directive stating that the elderly needed to be catered for during the lockdown period. As such, Rea Vaya will be extending its bus services to SASSA beneficiaries during the off-peak period.
In order to accommodate the SASSA beneficiaries as adequately as possible, the bus service will be available from 9am to 4pm. The services will run on all routes and operate with a 30-minute frequency. However, this will only be applicable from 30 March through to 3 April.
For other commuters the Rea Vaya services will run on a five-minute frequency, while the complementary and feeder services will run on a 20-minute frequency.
CoJ, in partnership with Rea Vaya, has requested that commuters plan their journey and arrive at stations early to avoid congestion. Commuters should take into account the regulations for social distancing and the seating requirements in buses, so arriving early is essential to secure your seat.
