Young boxer punching his way to the top with an iron fist

"I have a lot of secret moves that I like, but you have to come watch me box to see them."

The 11-year-old Iron Fist boxer, Kyle Britz found his love for boxing gloves and the centre of the ring at the age of seven.

He started his boxing training in 2014 under the leadership of his coach and father, ex pro boxer James Britz. Since then he excelled in his fighting journey and progressed to his current green boxing belt. “My favourite part of boxing is the foot and speed exercises. I love to test myself and see what I am capable of,” Kyle explained.

Among the highlights of his boxing journey are winning Best Bout at the Booysens Boxing Tournament the year he started competing. In 2015 he attended the Box and Dine event in Pretoria and in 2016 he won a gold medal at the Gauteng Development Tournament. Last year he was chosen for the Gauteng Novice Championships team, was runner-up in the Novice Championships and participated in his fourth Arnold Classic Africa Tournament where he won a silver medal.

According to Kyle, boxing is not only a good way to get and stay fit; it teaches boxers to believe in themselves and gain self-confidence. “It teaches you discipline and to be humble, because there is nothing like a bloody nose, black eye or sore ribs to keep you humble. It teaches you the real definition of fear, but also, if you box you can do anything. You feel invincible,” Kyle continued.

Even though he has achieved some great awards, he hopes to one day win the World Title, like his very own role model, “the one and only” Hekkie the Hexecutioner Budler. Hekkie is one of South Africa’s professional boxers who won the light-flyweight title, The World Boxing Association Championships title, and the International Boxing title. “Hekkie is a world champion wherever he goes. He always makes time for his fans, and he is humble and inspires me to become the best I can be,” he elaborated.

Kyle is currently working hard to become the best of the best, and with his favourite ‘jab, jab, left hook and right uppercut’ he will definitely be the future Hekkie in the ring.
