“We urge everyone to stay vigilant at all times. If you notice any suspicious vehicles following you, do not drive straight home – instead, drive around the block, and immediately call the police and/ or your security provider.”
This was a message from BCI Security after a woman narrowly escaped a hijacking in Weltevreden Park on Wednesday, 11 March.
In a Facebook post, BCI stated that they received a message from a client about their neighbour who had fallen victim to an attempted hijacking.
It is reported that four men in an SUV followed the victim, who noticed them and pulled into her driveway.
“They stopped on the road and two men with handguns got out. They ran down the driveway to either side of her vehicle and forcefully tried to pull her from the car,” the post read.
The woman had her children in the car with her, according to BCI.
“Thankfully, her husband was home and he came out and shouted at the hijackers. They pointed their firearms at him, so he went inside [his house] to push the panic button. The perpetrators ran out and drove off.”
BCI together with other security providers arrived at the scene. BCI contacted the police, and while waiting for them to arrive, they also contacted a victim support officer.
