Cycle the new Wilro Gravel Grinder to help those in need
Entries close on 12 April at 11pm for the race that will be held on 19 April at the Tarlton International Raceway.
The exciting 20th annual cycling challenge, The Wilro Gravel Grinder which used to be known as The Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge (WLCC) is almost ready for kick-off.
The challenge will take place at the Tarlton International Raceway on 19 April and is due to start at 6.30am.
Due to the poor condition of the roads as well as the heavy traffic that have made it more dangerous, the decision was made last year to change the cycle race to a much safer gravel route. Cyclists will have the opportunity to take on either the 95km, or the 55km race. They can expect the new route to be something totally different, but will still be enjoyable for all participants.
The costs for the different routes are R180 for the 55km, and R280 for the 95km race. Participants need to adhere to certain rules, such as that no person under the age of 18 will be allowed to enter the 95km race; a helmet is compulsory for cyclists who take part in the race; any cyclists under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult; and any person under the age of 21 entering the event must obtain the signature of a parent or guardian as indemnity. All rules can be found on the entry form.
Entries close on 12 April at 11pm. An admin fee of R50 will be levied for late entries (after 12 April).
The Wilro Lions Club will use all the funds raised from the Annual Cycle Race to perhaps sponsor another Guide Dog for the Blind, or a Service Dog for a child with autism; provide Comfort Kits for Kids with Cancer; and continue supporting the Lions feeding scheme. The funds may also contribute to a bursary for a deserving student, enabling him or her to study further and improve his or her life.
