Nine children taken to hospital after collision in Witpoortjie
No serious injuries reported in early morning accident
A collision involving a light motor vehicle and two minibus taxis left nine school children needing medical assistance. The incident occurred at the intersection of Nassau and Drommedaris Streets shortly after 7am on Tuesday, 10 March.

A grey Toyota Tazz struck one of the minibus taxis, which in turn collided with the other minibus taxi. One taxi was transporting a group of children to school but fortunately no serious injuries were reported. There were also reports of unrest at the scene, but this was later denied. “Our crew didn’t have any problems with the parties involved but some bystanders did get restless with police and JMPD,” confirmed Alett Reed of Emer-G-Med.
One of the taxi drivers, who preferred not to be named, confirmed two of the children had moderate leg injuries. Luckily, there were no major injuries. “Patients were treated on scene for minor injuries before being taken to hospital by various medical personnel,” reported Reed.
