EC Security personnel help recover car hijacked in Mpumalanga

Mphilo said the last tracking signal suggested the car to be in Dobsonville in Soweto.

EC Security reaction manager, Norman Mphilo has once again gone out of his way to assist a desperate citizen who was a victim of a hijacking outside of the province.

The crime fighter told Northsider that a resident of Northriding, whom he had assisted in 2018 to recover a stolen vehicle in Wilgeheuwel, contacted him recently.

“She asked me on Friday, 6 March to help recover the car of her friend who had been hijacked at gunpoint three months ago in Mpumalanga,” he said, adding that he made an appointment to meet with the victim the following day (Saturday, 7 March) to gather more information.

“At the victim’s house he told me that he had reported the case to the police and also informed his tracking company about the last location the vehicle was traced to, but his case wasn’t given immediate attention. He resorted to asking me for help,” he explained.

Mphilo said the last tracking signal suggested the car to be in Dobsonville in Soweto. “I arranged with my colleague to go to that location,” he said.

“We took the victim with us so that he could identify the vehicle, but first arranged with the police in Dobsonville to accompany us to the property as per the procedure.

“At the address, I and a police officer jumped a very high wall and found the vehicle at the back of a house, with lots of suspected stolen goods and vehicle panels,” he detailed.

The owner of the property was questioned about the vehicle but denied any knowledge of it. However, they managed to find leads that pointed to the suspect being in the North West province.

Although no arrest was made, Mphilo said the vehicle was recovered and subsequently booked in at Lenasia Police Station for further investigation.
