Lovely Lady needs a home

She may not have all of her limbs anymore, but that doesn't mean that this beautiful dog is any less lovable. Help give Lady a loving home.

Everyone deserves a second chance and the opportunity to have a loving home, including our four- (or in this case three-) legged friends.

A gorgeous female German shepherd was brought in to the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA as a stray in December 2019. Her stunning golden eyes and soft coat were no match for the affectionate and lovable nature of the dog. The beautiful girl had a problem though, her front right led was very skew, either due to a deformation or an old break that was never treated.

Her deformed leg would have caused her extreme misery and suffering, so in late January, the SPCA asked for the community’s help with the funding they needed to amputate the dog’s leg. A lot of community members were outraged, but others understood the reasoning behind the amputation (which was a lot better than the alternative recommended by veterinarians who examined her).

Two veterinarians examined the gorgeous animal and strongly suggested amputation, or otherwise euthanasia. The reasoning behind both options was that she was in pain due to a stiff joint and the inside of her paw was wearing away, so it would have been cruel to leave her in that condition.

Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA manager, Mandy Cattanach reassured the community that the amputation was the best option and went on to say that it would not hinder her at all.

The gorgeous girl which Mandy and the inspectors have dubbed ‘Lady Tripod’ has healed tremendously after her surgery, and the light in her already beautiful eyes seems so much brighter.

You would not say that Lady is one limb down; the two-year-old dog speeds up and down the grass when she gets her exercise. She loves cuddles and has a gorgeous smile; she seems happy.

The best news is, Lady Tripod has fully healed and is now available for adoption. She is amazing with people, and is extremely energetic and friendly; however, she doesn’t seem to be good with cats.

If you would like to give Lady a loving home, visit the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA to meet her, or call 011 672 0448 for more information.
