Prestige Football Development Academy striving for glory

In less than 10 years they have climbed to the edge of professionalism

South African Breweries (SAB) League action was centre stage at Cecil Payne Stadium on Sunday 23 February. Prestige Football Development Academy welcomed the Tembisa side, Tsamaya Boys for an early morning kick-off.

Prestige dominated the early stages, creating the clearer opportunities only to finish wastefully. Tsamaya Boys had their chances too but were equally poor in front of goal on what was admittedly a very uneven pitch. A physical, fragmented game eventually ended 1–0 to Prestige, with Kwazi Madwe snatching the sole second-half goal.

Midway through their debut SAB League season, Prestige Football Development Academy’s main objective this season is consolidating their position in the division. The SAB League serves as a feeder league to the ABC Motsepe League, which is essentially South Africa’s third tier of competitive soccer. Established in 2012, the club has done remarkably well since its inception, taking less than 10 seasons to go from the bottom of the amateur ranks to the cusp of semi-professionalism.

As with many fledgling clubs, though, finances eventually lead to limitations. They currently house and feed the bulk of their junior players at their headquarters on 6th Avenue, Florida. Chairperson and founder, Ibrahim Njoya reached out saying, “We are looking for anyone who is willing to sponsor or invest to please contact me on 078 322 9967 or at presitgeacademey1818@gmail.com“.
