ICE’s Family Fun Day in Florida was one for the books

Cold wind and dark skies were no match for the energy that ICE Community Policing and Roodepoort residents brought to the Florida Albion Football Club on 29 February.

To celebrate seven years of hard work, ICE Community Policing went all out for their birthday bash.

The Florida Albion Football Club, like most of Johannesburg, was covered with dark clouds on Saturday, 29 February. However, the cold wind and dark skies were no match for the energy that ICE and the Roodepoort community brought to the club.

Volunteers and ICE Community Policing members arrived at the football club bright and early to set up stalls and inflatable entertainment for the seventh birthday bash. The community policing group wanted to give back to the community they serve, so they organised a Family Fun Day to be held from 10am.

The fun day was basically heaven for all of the children who attended. There were stalls with food, sweets and toys, but the children would still need to put on their best puppy dog face and flutter their eyes for a chance to get something; the entertainment however, was completely free.

From toddlers to teenagers, and a few young at heart adults, everyone who could be entertained by the inflatable entertainment, was. Giant slides lined the one side of the field, with a foam pit set up next to them. The younger children seemed to enjoy jumping into the foam to be more slippery when going down the slides.

The inflatable obstacle course had a huge line next to it, with children waiting to race through it, two at a time. A volleyball court, boxing ring and soccer field kept the teenagers entertained, and for the children who preferred something less extreme, there were simple jumping castles as well.

Another attraction was the inflatable swing ride, which lifted children into the air, and dropped them when the air inside the chamber was let out.

When everyone was done exerting themselves on the inflatables, they could enjoy a range of delicious food – from chip ‘n dip to pancakes. All the residents who attended seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, and when the Fun Day was over, the ICE family gathered for their own private birthday party.
