A huge multi-disciplinary greenbelt operation involving the police, Johannesburg Metro Police Department and various security companies restored order in a number of greenbelts in Honeydew Sector 3 policing precinct on Wednesday, 12 February.
The success of the operation comprised demolishing 16 illegal structures; removing three hawker stands; confiscating 37 packets of drugs and 16 dangerous weapons; recovering six metres of copper cable, and arresting a suspect in possession of drugs.

A Pikitup truck was loaded with the structures and recyclables, which took them to the JMPD pound.
During a Honeydew Sector 3 Community Policing Forum (CPF) operation, Captain Karen Jacobs emphasised the increase in crime emanating from the greenbelts, judging by the confiscated items during the operation.

On the same day, Ward 97 councillor Leah Knott reported that the Gautrans employees initiated a clean-up outside Makro. Part of their duties were to cut grass, clear storm-water drains and collect litter from Makro’s entrance through to the Christiaan de Wet Road bridge in Ward 89.
