Best awarded at Johannesburg West 2019 Matric Awards

Jaco Ferreira made his school and family proud when he received the Top Learner Award in the Town School category.

The Gauteng Education Department (GDE) hosted the annual Johannesburg West District Class of 2019 Matric Awards on 31 January and invited all the top schools and learners in the District.

The matrics and their excited parents gathered at the Hoërskool Roodepoort Hall dressed in formal wear to proudly represent their alma maters. The event started with a word of welcome by the District Director.

Various awards were handed out to the winners of the respective categories. The special awards, in particular, stirred up emotions when the names of the recipients were announced.

In the various categories of the Top Achieving School Awards, Hoërskool Florida was named the Top Town School, Lantern School was awarded as Top LSEN School, and Eagle House and Tulip Secondary School shared the prize for Top Independent School.

Hoërskool Florida also received the Overall Excellence School Award with 16,57 per cent distinctions among the 2019 matric group. But that was not where it ended for Hoërskool Florida …

Jaco Ferreira, top achiever of the school, was named the Dux Learner among the 2019 matrics. He also received four subject awards for being top achiever in Afrikaans Home Language, Electrical Technology, Engineering Graphics and Design, and Information Technology in the entire Johannesburg West District. Kupane Funerals also awarded him a special prize for his hard work and remarkable final matric results.

Matthew Bouwer from Victory House Private School received the Top Learner Award in the Independent Schools category, and once again Jaco made his school and family proud when he received the Top Learner Award in the Town School category.
