Intelligence leads to arrest and recovery of firearms and car

Two suspects aged 25 and 30 were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

The West Rand Flying Squad’s tactical response efforts have led to arrests, recovery of unlicensed firearms and of a suspected stolen vehicle.

The members acted tactically and intelligently when they followed up on the criminals on Monday, 3 February.

According to a police press release, the members acted tactically and intelligently when they followed up on information about a grey Peugeot 308 that had been stolen during a robbery in Stormill, Florida. The information further led them to Swanieville in Kagiso where the car was recovered, and upon searching the suspects they found two unlicensed firearms (a pistol and a rifle), and magazines fully loaded with live ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the members for the persistence and vigour they have shown when performing their duties. “It is through police of this calibre and [their] enthusiasm that crime can be brought to its minimal in our province. This large number of ammunition recovered matches the number of lives that might have been lost. It is a job well done by these committed members,” said Mawela.

The suspects are expected to appear in court in due course.
