Early on Friday, 24 January, Roodepoort Police members from Echo Relief received information about a housebreaking that had been committed in Witpoortjie.
Sergeant Modisane and Constable Maswinga were following up on the information when they noticed a suspicious-looking Renault Sandero.

Four men occupied the silver vehicle that was driving up Randfontein Road at an extremely reckless speed and overtaking other vehicles very dangerously. A chase ensued after the careless driver almost caused an accident.
The constable and sergeant pursued the men until the four were eventually cornered on Impala Road in Krugersdorp. The suspects attempted to flee and three of them were apprehended. Unfortunately, one of them allegedly fled from the passenger side of the vehicle, into a nearby veld, and was not found.

While searching the vehicle, the officers recovered housebreaking equipment (such as a crowbar and pickaxe) and several stolen items, including an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, televisions, cellphones, bank cards and wallets. The vehicle was also seized as it is being linked to the crimes.
Brigadier Kuboni received information from the station commissioner, Brigadier Mashao, that could link the suspects to a house robbery that had occurred earlier that day in Krugersdorp. These claims are currently being investigated by the Trio Task Team detectives.

Brigadier Kuboni congratulated the two officers for their hard work and dedication, and thanked the detectives who work tirelessly to follow up on all the information they receive. “This shows that in the Roodepoort Policing Precinct there is a zero-tolerance approach and brilliant communication with other station commanders of the South African Police Service. If you do the crime, you will do the time!”
According to Captain Juanita Yorke, the Roodepoort Police spokesperson, this arrest was the third inter-station case of the week where criminals were linked to utilising various new technologies.

She added that the suspects will appear in the relevant magistrates’ court in due course.
