A weekend riddled with vehicle theft

The white Toyota Fortuner stolen from Bidon Bistro on Sunday morning was recovered, however stripped to the core.

Car theft remains a huge problem on the West Rand and statistics grow year on year.

Over seven vehicles were reported stolen on the West Rand over the past weekend, most of them stolen in the Roodepoort and Muldersdrift areas.

On 23 January a white Mahindra with registration number JJ 15 KC GP was stolen from Compu-Signage on Albertina Sisulu Road in Witpoortjie.

On Saturday, 25 January a white Toyota Hilux Legend 45 D with registration number FB 92 DZ GP was stolen in Weltevreden Park while a Toyota Etios with registration number CR 46 CX GP was stolen at Laerskool Helderkruin.

The owner of a white Isuzu bakkie with registration number FPH 043 GP could not believe it when his vehicle vanished in thin air from Hillfox Centre.

The second vehicle stolen in Muldersdrift on Sunday was a grey Ford Ranger double cab with the registration number JB 80 RF GP.

Another grey Ford Ranger double cab that was stolen on Sunday has two trackers installed. One of the trackers showed the vehicle’s location at Lanseria Airport, and the last location the other one indicated was towards Sandton.

According to Tracker SA, its statistics revealed that vehicle theft and hijacking trends were unchanged from the country’s annual Crime Index released in August last year.

The vehicle tracking and recovery solutions company said its statistics were compiled from 1,1 million vehicles installed with tracking devices.
