Spared the frantic and intimidating atmosphere of attending the first day of ‘big school’ with hundreds of other children, Jozua Naude Primary’s Grade 1s were granted a more tranquil atmosphere on their first day, which was 14 January.

The newbies and their teachers had the school to themselves when they started a day early in order to get their bearings. After a brief introductory meeting with parents, the proud moms and dads said their farewells to their children who will spend the next seven years in the rooms and corridors of their new school.
The bubbly young children were bursting with excitement as they were given a guided tour by their new teachers. Once they were familiar with their home away from home, it was straight to work though. The colouring pencils and stickers were out to keep them busy with what would be the first of many exercises throughout their school careers.

A welcome and unexpected surprise came in the shape of Roodepoort Police station commander, Brigadier Zoleka Kuboni. Promoting social crime prevention, Brigadier Kuboni addressed the learners and teachers on issues of crime, with an emphasis on personal safety. With Roodepoort’s top cop keeping a watchful eye on their progress, parents can trust that this first step will be one of many on the path to success.
