The West Rand Chatroom welcomed back its members on Saturday, 11 January, following the festive-season break.
It was all smiley faces and hugs when the cancer survivors and caregivers reunited at the NG Kerk Constantiakruin in Constantia Kloof.
However, there were moments of sorrow when some members announced the reoccurrence of the chronic disease and asked everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers as they continue to fight the disease.

While undergoing cancer treatment can be excruciating and stressful, as well as dealing with issues such as life-insurance providers’ red tape, a life insurance expert from Liberty, Melvin Kupersamy, came to explain the options available for patients to help them get life cover.
“It’s always worth a try to get life cover. Liberty insurers actually go out of their way to provide cover to clients, although this process would require doctor’s medical reports etc,” he explained.
Kupersamy also emphasised the importance of financial planning. He advised about products such as wills and investments. However, he mentioned that such plans depend on the severity of a client’s health condition.
Before the end of the meeting, founding member of the forum, Pat Moodliar, appealed for more people to attend the next meeting on 15 February when the guest speaker will be a doctor.
