Securing Welties from criminals

In a bid to reduce the areas where criminals in Weltevreden Park can hide, the Panorama Residents Association (PRA) embarked on a project to fence off two open sites in the area.

Thanks to the contributions by members of the PRA, they managed to fence off the park on Rooisering Street and the Koppie on Lemoendoring and Albert Streets, costing them over R70 000.

While creating a safe environment, the project also provided employment to a local business.

PRA chairperson, Dave Baxter, explained the need to secure the two open spaces. “Following complaints from residents about criminal activity at the Koppie, we embarked on various projects – the fencing being one of them – to reduce crime,” he said.

Baxter added that a gate has been installed to provide entry to the park, and their preferred security providers, EC Security and Beagle Watch, will have the keys to open and lock the gate. “They will also respond to any occurrences at the Koppie, ensure that it is kept clean and the fence isn’t vandalised,” he explained.

Baxter also mentioned that they have more projects in the pipeline, and that the size of the membership in a particular area will determine whether they will be implemented.
