A concerned motorist and Panorama Residents Association chairperson Dave Baxter shared a photograph of what appears to be signs of 9th Avenue collapsing again near Snelskaats Street in Weltevreden Park.
The photograph depicts a cracking and slowly collapsing portion of 9th Avenue. However, Ward 126 councillor David Brand, who consulted a Rand Water engineer about the problem, advised motorists not to panic as the damage isn’t as major as it seems.

“The road is not collapsing. There is no danger, ” he said. “Rand Water has seen the problem and will be initiating repairs,” he added.
He explained that the cause of the road cracks was simply poor soil conditions. The rains during December resulted in an indentation in the road surface.
The residents’ concerns are understandable as the same road had to be closed after deep cracks developing in its surface had put the road at risk of collapsing.
