On the evening of Wednesday, 8 January, a man allegedly gunned down his wife and daughter, before turning the gun on himself.

This incident is currently being probed by the Honeydew Police to establish the circumstance that led to the tragic incident, according to the Gauteng Police’s Provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters.

The Northsider attempted to resolve the mystery when hard-news journalist Siso Naile visited the family; however, the bereaved family could not disclose any details of the incident and appealed for privacy, which is being respected.

This tragedy unfolded in Extension 10 in Cosmo City. Peters added that preliminary reports suggest that police were called after gunshots had been heard.

It was reported that the man had held his family hostage for a couple of hours, and disregarded every attempted by neighbours, family and the police to free his family from the hostile situation.

“Alleged attempts by the man’s relatives to talk him out of shooting anybody else had failed and he allegedly turned the gun on himself,” Peters said.

“All three were declared dead on the scene,” she confirmed, adding that police seized a licensed pistol believed to have been used to commit the crime.

The initial report left Northsider readers dismayed, with more questions than answers.

Shaune Lategan asked, “Why?” Linda Miliakidis said the incident was so sad, and lastly, Sanchia Williams said, “Oh Lord, rest in peace to the ladies, this is not fair”.
