Word of the day

The word of the day for 9 January is: Thoughts.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines thoughts as ideas or opinions produced by thinking, or that occur suddenly in the mind.

Marcus Aurelius said, “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts: therefore, guard accordingly, and take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature.”

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. The way we think about the world, about people, about ourselves, and about life can either help us or stop us from seeing something beautiful.

If we always look for the bad in something, we will never be happy. If we have filled our heads with thoughts of failure, then we will never succeed because we will never have the motivation to do it.

Swami Vivekananda said, “We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.”

If we keep telling ourselves that we can achieve our goals then we will, because we think it is possible and will have the willpower to try. We also need to remember that positive thoughts aren’t always enough. Something won’t happen just because you want it to. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, “Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put one’s thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world.”
