It’s official (sort of)
The Florida couple that has defined love at first sight made their love official on 16 December.
While most of South Africa celebrated the Day of Reconciliation on 16 December 2019, an excited group of people gathered in Florida to witness their favourite couple tie the knot.
Willie Hayward, 42 and Sharmayne Wolmarans, 48 met on 6 August 2019 and were engaged not long after. It was love at first sight; within 24 hours they knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.

The couple lives in a care centre in Florida, and both of them are partially paralysed. Despite communication barriers that Sharmayne and Willie may have with their families, these barriers are virtually non-existent between them. They always seem to know how the other is feeling and what they want.
Their love has proved to have a spectacular impact on both of their mentalities; neither of them has stopped laughing or smiling since they met.

On the day of their wedding, Interhome Care was beautifully decorated in purple, black and white. Even though the marriage was not legal, it still acted as a symbolism of the couples’ love, so their loved ones wanted to make it as real as possible. No detail was missed; there was a dominee, there were rings, tuxedos, dresses, bride and groom bubbles, and a gorgeously decorated cake.
On Sharmayne’s request, a hen party was held and the bride to be was given a garter to wear under her dress on the day. The groomsmen and bridesmaids looked amazing, but the showstoppers were Willie and his wife. Even though he was sporting a suit, the most beautiful part of his outfit was his huge smile. His bride was no exception. Sharmayne looked stunning in her wedding dress, but the light in her eyes and the smile on her face as everyone’s focal point.

Riaan Van Aswegen performed the ceremony for the couple and their family, ending off with the adorable Renier Goosen bringing the newly married couple their rings. The guests and the newlyweds then basked in the sun on that beautiful day to enjoy their reception.
To Willie and Sharmayne, the Record wishes you all the best in your new adventure together.
