These international jobs are perfect for school leavers and young adults
Travel while you work with these six international jobs.
A lot of school leavers and young adults want to find jobs overseas, even for just a short while. Whether it is a gap year, or you are just tired of working in South Africa, there is something for you to do.
There are several jobs abroad that are looking for South African applicants, all you need to do is look. The contracts are typically eight to 10 months long, but there are exceptions. The best part is, depending on what job you choose, most of your expenses are paid. Your employers are responsible for your travel expenses, visa expenses, and often your accommodation and food.
1. Teach English – the most common places for this job are in predominantly non-English speaking countries, like Thailand and China. You are required to do a short course before they will accept you, but it is affordable and doesn’t take long at all.
2. Resort Jobs – these jobs are most popular in New Zealand, Australia, and America. Employers look for people to help out at holiday resorts as hostesses, waitrons, room service, entertainers, maintenance workers, and more. A lot of places also look for people to sell tickets, manage rides, fix rides, and manage stalls at theme parks. Just be aware and read what is needed, as a few places require child care experience.
3. Summer Camps – these are extremely popular in America, and the camps are always looking for councillors and activity directors. You do need child care experience for this job, and males often need more experience than females.
4. Farming – America is the most popular place for this, but Canada is close behind. This is a male-dominated field where South Africans are hired to harvest crops, plant crops, bale hay and do a lot more farming related jobs. A part of this job is also truck driving, and while a lot of places prefer experience, there are even more that will train you and teach you to drive a truck.
5. Cruise Ships – cruise ships are amazing places to work if you love to travel. They usually have contracts lasting from 10 to 16 months and cover all career aspects. You can work in child care, entertainment, sport, catering, maintenance, cleaning, and so much more. It is usually long hours, but it is the best way to travel while you work.
6. Au Pairing – this is an amazing job for the girls and has vacancies in almost every country you can think of (most commonly America). The au pairing companies usually require a lot of child-care experience, and more for men than women, but it is still fun. An amazing part is, most companies require the host families to pay for you to study a course of your choice. They are given a budget for this though, so if your course exceeds the budget, it comes from your pocket.
Bottom line, there are a lot of opportunities for you if you are hoping to work overseas and make money in a different currency.
