Quick reactions contain fire in Struben’s Valley
After the officer called for backup it was confirmed that the smoke and fire came from a bedroom window on the second floor.

While attending to an alarm of a client in Staatspond Avenue in Strubens Valley on New Year’s Day, a BCI Armed Reaction Officer noticed smoke coming from another property a few houses away.
After the officer called for backup, it was confirmed that the smoke and fire were coming from a bedroom window on the second floor.
The owners of the property were not at home, but the neighbours were standing at the gate while a BCI Junior Manager climbed over the wall into the property and used a hosepipe to extinguish the starting blazes.
The fire was contained to that one bedroom and did not spread to the rest of the house, by the time Engine 20 arrived on site the fire was almost out.
The Firefighters put out the fire completely and a section of the roof collapsed, but the damage to the rest of the house was minimal.
There were no injuries sustained during the fire by any of the personnel that assisted at the property.
