Muldersdrift community urged to leave baboon alone
There is a baboon trap installed on Boland Road, Muldersdrift where the baboon has been staying for the last few days.

On New Year’s Day a male baboon was spotted around Peter Road, Glover Road and recently Merlot Close in Wilgeheuwel.
The public is advised to keep their dogs inside and leave him alone as he is dangerous if he feels threatened.
Cora Bailey from the Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW) said, “We run a very busy veterinary clinic and the signal there is quite erratic, so calling is not advisable. We will check messages regularly and do our best to help this poor animal.”
According to CLAW, male baboons leave their maternal troop at some stage in their lives, and go in search of another troop to join.
Cora said, “Ideally, these beautiful indigenous animals should just be left alone to go their own way, but rapid urbanisation has ensured that they can no longer do so without encounters with humans.”

CLAW confirmed that there is a baboon trap installed on Boland Road in Muldersdrift where the baboon has been staying for the last few days.
Members of the public are advised not to call but send a WhatsApp to CLAW on 076 850 4466 as the veterinary clinic very busy to answer calls.
Cora said, “We have successfully trapped and relocated two adult males in the past few months, but desperately wish that there had been no need to do so.”
