Beggar blows second chance
In October Lerato surprised the famous Hendrik Potgieter Road beggars Ivan Mogadingane and Jeffery Makgotlho with job opportunities at a construction site in Honeydew.
Lending a helping hand to the disadvantage, especially in a form of employment, should be the biggest gift to the recipient as this chance can be life-changing for them.
However, some recipients still blow their chances and slide back into the streets.

Lerato Mkubukeli, the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) for High Voltage Power Systems, a business unit of E.O.H, is a disappointed person after her efforts to improve a beggar’s life were destroyed by the beggar himself who decided never to pitch up for work after being appointed.
In October Lerato surprised the famous Hendrik Potgieter Road beggars Ivan Mogadingane and Jeffery Makgotlho with job opportunities at a construction site in Honeydew.

Lerato organised everything for the duo, including identity documents and chances to fulfil their dreams of obtaining a matric certificate. However, Lerato updated the Northsider that Jeffery, the beggar with the artificial joining leg, had absconded.
She said, “Jeffery has never been to work, and said out-right that he wanted to continue begging on the streets”.
The Northsider will try and track down Jeffery to find out his reasons for opting to go back to the streets.
The publication also asked about Ivan, and Lerato said that he was still working. “He is genuinely trying to change his life around,” she said.
