Illegal mining disrupted in Matholesville

No arrests made but several implements confiscated.

With Roodepoort Police’s festive season operational deployment in full swing, they continued their end of year push-back against illegal activity.

Police responded to a tip-off about possible illegal mining in the Matholesville area around 2.30am on Sunday 8 December. Roodepoort Police spokesperson Captain Juanita-Anne Yorke reported on the outcome, saying, “Numerous items were confiscated but no arrests have yet been made. Members of the public are urged to report any likewise activity to the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.”

Criminals do not take time off over the holidays so neither will police as they continue their efforts to ensure a safer festive season. Yorke concluded, “Roodepoort Police management would like to thank all the role players involved. Together we can make a difference.”
