HWA celebrates its fourth birthday

"We want people to come to our shows to be entertained and not lose fans because of the dangers.”

Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) recently celebrated its fourth birthday.

Steve Eden, the founder of HWA, had the dream of seeing wrestlers idolised in the same manner as Roodepoort legend Danie Voges used to be idiolised. To realise that dream, Eden opened a wrestling, boxing and mixed-martial arts centre at the Roodepoort City Hall in 2015.

In an interview with the Record in 2016, he said, “Our main focus will be to have more wrestlers well taken care of, and to groom the best trainees on the continent. In other sports, players start their own associations to take care of fellow players – why can’t we as wrestlers do the same?”

He also stated that wrestling was still a dangerous sport. “We want people to come to our shows to be entertained and not lose fans because of the dangers”.

All the wrestlers showed their appreciation towards HWA in a heartfelt video that was posted on HWA’s Facebook page, wishing the association a happy fourth birthday.
