Here is a list of items the victim needs

The fire that gutted a home in Helderkruin early on Saturday morning, 30 November, has left the elderly occupant borderline destitute. The woman, in her late 80s has been identified as Ruth but her surname will remain confidential to protect her privacy.

Ruth was transported to Helen Joseph Hospital after the fire and discharged once stabilised. She has been admitted to a frail care facility and will be receiving meals daily. Unfortunately she needs to provide her own personal items and it is hoped the community is able to assist with this.

Community organisations have been attempting to raise awareness of Ruth’s situation and to help collect the essentials. Kruin Community Volunteer Association (KCVA) social welfare coordinator, Debbie Rothmann said, “This will help Ruth to settle in over the next few months as she needs to transition. We appreciate our community assisting her.”

Anyone who wishes to send a personal message to Ruth may contact Debbie on 082 450 6895. A compilation of the messages will be placed on a card to help lift Ruth’s spirits.
