Big test for West Rand boxer

The 26-year-old confident fighter will travel to East London to face Siphosethu Mvula on 8 December for the vacant title at a tournament to be staged at the Orient Theatre in the city.

The Team Dida Boxing camp could end the year with an SA title in their trophy cabinet, should promising boxer Kabelo Bikitsha defy the odds when he clashes with an Eastern Cape rival.

The 26-year-old confident fighter will travel to East London to face Siphosethu Mvula on 8 December for the vacant title at a tournament to be staged at the Orient Theatre in the city.

The Northsider caught up with Bikitsha as he was going hard in the gym preparing for his fight. “Preparations for this fight have been good. I’ve been pushing myself to the limit, plus I have an exceptional team that is producing nothing but the best in me,” he said.

Without doubt this fight requires Bikitsha’s A-game as he goes up against an experience fighter who has a record of 19 fights and 15 wins – three times the number of fights Bikitsha has on his record. However, this West Rand boxer said he was unfazed by his counterpart’s experience and the number of rounds for which their fight is scheduled.

“I’ve fought six rounds and this will be my first 12-rounder and title fight. His experience doesn’t intimidate me because I’m ready for him – come the night of the fight I will show everyone that I’m capable of beating him,” he assured.

His coach, Dida Dipheko, a formidable trainer and former pro boxer, wished Bikitsha all the best, and will be at the ringside on the night of fight alongside assistant-trainer Nyiko Bright.
