Doggies enjoy the leftovers from CakeCrush

MTN helps Roodepoort SPCA with a year's worth of food

The plight of any SPCA is a roller coaster of ups and downs as the emotions of tending to animals in distress can weigh heavily on those trying to make a positive impact. The ups though bring a huge relief as a heart-warming gesture from MTN South Africa showed on Monday, 25 November.

As part of their 25th birthday celebrations, MTN South Africa reached out to the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA to be part of their CakeCrush campaign. To avoid food wastage, MTN donated its specially made promotional props to the lonely and hungry canines of the SPCA. Along with donating the dog-friendly cakes MTN donated an entire year’s worth of food worth over R100 000.

Made out of wheat flour, bananas, free range eggs, mashed potatoes icing, coconut sprinkles and dog-friendly food colouring, the cakes offer a healthy alternative to traditional doggie treats. Jacqui O’Sullivan, MTN South Africa Executive for Corporate Affairs said, “We wanted to bring a little light into the lives of the rescue dogs at our local SPCA by offering them something unusual and different from their normal food”.

A very appreciative Mandy Cattanach of the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA said with a smile, “Thanks to MTN for thinking of the animals. The exposure has been great, it has definitely helped us quite a bit. Every little bit helps and we can rest a little easier knowing the animals’ basic food requirements will be met for months to come.”
