Today in history: Former Bafana Bafana captain is born
He was only 19 when he played in the 2000 Olympic qualifiers in 1999. He also led Bafana Bafana in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
Former Bafana Bafana captain, Tebogo Aaron Mokoena was born on 25 November 1980 in Boipatong in Vanderbijlpark.
Aaron started playing professional football as a member of local teams such as Jomo Cosmos and later moved abroad to join teams like Ajax Amsterdam, KRC Gent and Portsmouth.
He returned to the country and played for Bidvest Wits, and is the youngest player ever to represent South Africa.
He was only 19 when he played in the 2000 Olympic qualifiers in 1999. He also led Bafana Bafana in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
Aaron’s tough tackling skills have earned him the nickname Mbazo, meaning The Axe.
