The Oxford English Dictionary defines ‘progress’ as development towards an improved or more advanced condition.
You cannot start at the finish line; you need to start at the beginning and make your way to the finish. You cannot walk into your first job and expect to be a manager; you start at the bottom and work your way up.
To make progress, you need to take the necessary steps, no matter how small they may be.
Plato said, “Never discourage anyone who makes progress, no matter how slow”.
You do not always need to be fast when you are making progress. When you rush, you miss out on important things and eventually your ‘progress’ will fall through because of a mistake you didn’t see when you were speeding through everything.
If you realise that being calm and taking things one step at a time helps, things become a lot easier and more permanent; you learn and build habits.
Robin Sharma said, “Slow, steady progress is better than fast, daily excuses”.
If you are struggling, or falling behind in something you need to do, a concerted effort needs to be put into resolving the situation; it won’t just happen. You need to change your habits, and make the necessary sacrifices.
Walt Disney said that progress is impossible without change.
