The family pet is not just an extension of the family, it is a cherished companion loved by all. The theft of an animal then is far more traumatic than simply being robbed of your television or appliances.
Daleen van Niekerk was subjected to this trauma on Tuesday, 19 November, when one of her three Jack Russells was stolen from the yard of her house on 6th Avenue, Georgina.

A distraught Daleen said, “We are heartbroken. Our two boys have lost their mother and mentor”. Daleen has spoken with a few residents and there have been unconfirmed reports of a sighting on 5th Avenue. It is claimed suspects with a similar dog were approached but fled toward the Hamberg area. Daleen confirms that they have opened a case at Roodepoort Police Station.

Mandy Cattanach of Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA warned, “People are asked to please keep their dogs in the back yard away from the view of anyone in the street. Dogs are stolen for the fighting rings and this time of the year sees an increase in both theft and poisonings”.
Should anyone have information on the dog, whose name is Lara, they are asked to please contact the Roodepoort Police urgently.
