Constantia Kloof Primary gets the legs pumping

Fun, fitness and community the theme of the day

An early Saturday morning walk or mild jog is the best way to shake off the week’s stress. The injection of oxygen sets you up to maximise your two rest days and Constantia Kloof residents had their opportunity on 9 November.

Constantia Kloof Primary School’s fun run gave participants a choice of how much they wished to push their bodies. With the option of 2, 5, or 8km runs, community members of all ages and fitness levels were able to tailor their level of enjoyment. Some chose to sprint the 2kms while others took a gentle family stroll for the longer distances.

The start line was the zebra crossing on Pauline Street just outside the school. Aspiring marathoners then headed downhill turning left into Nolene Road, looping back into Pauline Street before entering the school to chase the finish line on the main field. Those taking on the longer challenge would repeat the sequence until their time came to enter the final gate.

The spirit of the day was not competition but fun, fitness and community. One of the early finishers, Charlton Ward, was asked what time he completed his run in and replied, “I don’t know, we didn’t keep score. It’s just to get out and run”. This embodies the core principle of fun runs and that is to enjoy the fresh air and time with the community.
