ProTouch claims its first UCI points

The ProTouch Cycling Team started Stage 1 of the 2019 Tour of Quanzhou Bay on Friday, 8 November, kicking off the first of their two Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) events in China. This event marks the start of the 2020 season in terms of UCI points.
The team consists of James Fourie, Mornay van Heerden, Callum Ormiston, Ryan Terry and Chris Jooste, as well as Ethiopian Time Trial Specialist and Sprinter, Temesgen Buru.
Stage 1 was fairly flat but the challenge came from the strong wind on the day, but the team rode a really aggressive race from the start.
The peloton was not able to close down a big group of 16 riders, one of them being Chris Jooste, that moved to the front about an hour into the race.
The rest of the team were in the peloton covering every move and Temesgen and Callum formed part of a chasing group but unfortunately, were not able to bridge the breakaway.
A support team car from another team smashed into ProTouch’s team vehicle and destroyed its back, but luckily no injuries were sustained.
Chris finished off in a terrific Top 10 position as ProTouch opened its first UCI points account of the new season. The team is currently lying 9th in the Team Competition.
