Coach Alwyn parts ways with Poorte
Poorte had some good performances during the 2019 season as they kicked off with a convoy of victories and were the team to beat in the beginning of the season.
RotoTank Roodepoort Rugby Club made an announcement on Friday, 8 November about the services of the club’s head coach, Alwyn Hollenbach.
In a statement released by the club, an offer was made to coach Alwyn for the 2020 season, based on what the club could honour, but he unfortunately did not accept the offer, and subsequently stepped out of coaching within the club for the 2020 season.
Club Chairman, Mathys Booyens said, “We thank Alwyn for his support over the years and wish him all the best for 2020. Finding a suitable replacement is a daunting task, especially working within a very limited budget, but we are excited to announce that Louw Parsons will take over as head coach and he will be assisted by Dawie Ernst.”
Poorte had some good performances during the 2019 season as they kicked off with a convoy of victories and were the team to beat in the beginning of the season.
Memorable victories over the University of Johannesburg, Pukke, and Wits were the highlights of the season with players like Astley van Wyk, Byron Godfrey and Brandon Rieck putting in some match-winning performances.
Coach Alwyn departs at a time of regrouping and correcting the shortfalls from the previous season, but the Roodepoort outfit seems hopeful and confident in the new coaching personnel and their newly elected 2020 club committee.
“It’s a decision that I had to take, as much as I would have loved to continue coaching the guys in the next season. One has to think of the financial side, and, for my family’s sake, I cannot start a new season on a lower offer,” said coach Alwyn.
