City Power has released a statement updating the residents of Ruimsig and surrounds on the power outage that has been affecting the area since Saturday, 9 November.
The outage was caused by several factors, including multiple cable faults and thefts, as well as two mini-substations catching fire.

City Power would like to notify residents that more teams have been sent out to attend to the outage and rectify the issue as soon as possible.

While power in some areas has been restored, a few have been left without power since the weekend, and while City Power is working on the issue, a few delays have been encountered.
According to City Power’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, the first team from this morning, 12 November, discovered that the cables that were meant to be used to repair the problems were not safe to use.
During tests, before the cables could be joined, City Power found the cables to be full of carbon. This carbon creates earth leakage paths that may lead to further trips. The work to clean the cables started this morning, shortly after the problem was identified.

To restore supply to the Ruimsig and Willowbrook area, a temporary cable of about 750 metres in length will be run along the surface of the site.
The entity has apologised for the severe inconvenience and is pleading with residents for continued patience and cooperation.
No estimated time of repair has been given, but updates will be posted as they become available.
