Word of the day

The word of the day for 7 November is: negativity.

The Oxford English Dictionary defined ‘negativity’ as the expression of criticism or pessimism about something.

Negativity is toxic; it drags us down and we end up dragging the people we love down with us.

Albert Einstein said that negative people have a problem for every solution, and he wasn’t wrong.

If you keep trying to find the bad side of everything and propose a problem for every solution, not only will you never achieve anything, you will eventually lose those who have been supporting you as well.

Helen Keller said, “No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the horizon of the spirit”.

We need to try to overcome our negativity and find the silver linings in life, or we will lose all motivation to do anything and will, therefore, become nothing.

William Atkinson said, “The best way to overcome undesirable or negative thoughts and feelings is to cultivate positive ones”.

We need to try and see the good things rather than the bad, and we need to surround ourselves with people who are doing the same.

H Jackson Brown said that we need to protect our enthusiasm from the negativity of others. Don’t let someone else steal your happiness, and don’t steal theirs.

“When something bad happens you have three choices. You can either let it define you, let it destroy you, or you can let it strengthen you.” — Dr. Seuss.
