Today in history: Nick Mallet is born in the UK

Mallet was the head coach of Italy's rugby union team between 2007 and 2011.

Nicholas Vivian Howard Mallett was born in the United Kingdom on 30 October 1956. He is a former South African rugby union player who also played for the Springboks.

He represented South Africa’s national rugby union team in 1984, and also coached the Springboks between 1997 and 2000.

Mallet was the head coach of Italy’s rugby union team between 2007 and 2011.

He attended St Andrew’s College in Grahamstown before studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in English and History degree at the University of Cape Town, where graduated in 1977.

He also obtained a Higher Diploma in Education at the University College at the University of Oxford in 1979.

Mallet had served as a coach for various teams in South Africa and France, with significant wins at different instances.
