Wilro Lion nominated for position of second Vice District Governor of the Lions Club
One of Wilro Lions’ own treasured members, Sydney van Heerden, has been nominated as candidate for the position of second Vice District Governor of the Lions Club.
Sydney joined the Lions Club as a Charter member of the Lions Club of Wilro Park in 1986. Since then he has held many positions in his 33-year Lions career, both within his own club and on Cabinet. In 1987, 1988, 2010 and 2011, he served as the Club President of the Lions Club of Wilro Park, and served as the Zone Chairperson twice. He was also selected as a Member of the District Governor’s team for three years. Currently, Sydney is serving as the Region Chairman, which includes 14 clubs in total, and has been Cabinet Treasurer for the past three years.
He also received the Honours Roll and Melvin Jones Awards from the Wilro Lions, and was also selected as the Guiding Lion of the Lions Club of Oberholzer, Soweto Host, and Joburg North.
Sydney would like to use his experience to assist Clubs with both extension and retention of members and is encouraging clubs to put succession plans in place and to take advantage of the excellent training workshops available to future leaders. As a Certified Guiding Lion for three clubs in the past, he is available to assist with the challenges and formation of new and diverse clubs and would really like to see many more young Lions. He is also looking to assist with the formation of new viable clubs in key geographic areas, and to work hard in every club to accept each other’s unique differences.
“It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving,” Sydney said.
