The word of the day for 19 October is: Willpower

The word of the day for 19 October is: Willpower

‘Willpower’ is defined as the control that is exerted to do something or restrain impulses.

A lot of people act on impulse and end up regretting it. When they act on impulse they do not think of the consequences that will come from their actions because they are in the moment. This is why we need to learn to practice restraint; to have willpower.

Willpower can also be associated with perseverance. Sometimes we want to give up or don’t feel like doing something, but willpower is needed to stick to the task. It isn’t always easy, but it is always necessary.

If we practice willpower, there is nothing we can’t achieve. Theodore Roosevelt said, “Believe you can, and you’re halfway there.”

Believing in ourselves is extremely important, but it needs to work together with our willpower. We cannot give up, because then we will never move forward.

Martin Luther King Jr. said, “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl, but by all means, keep moving.”
