Eskom announces stage 1 load shedding for Saturday

Eskom sincerely apologises for the inconvenience to affected customers

Stage 1 rotational load shedding will commence at 9am today, 19 October and will last until 11pm.

Eskom has announced that the electricity system remains under severe pressure with several generating units being out of service. Recovery efforts are underway to fix coal handling issues at Medupi and to expidite the return of units that experienced technical problems.

They further stated that they hoped to have recovered adequately by Sunday so that South Africans can enjoy watching the Springboks play in the world cup.

Customers should note that some areas may take longer to be restored. Should customers experience outages for longer periods than announced, they should contact their local municipality as this may be a localised power outage.

Eskom would like to thank customers for using electricity sparingly.
